GOOD NAME

  1. Gracious. This guy should have (1) changed his surname, and (2) declined to have that huge tattoo on his head.

  2. When I was a kid, we lived across the street from a family named Hittler and one of their kids, Artie, was one of my closest friends. I don't know if his last name always had two T's or whether the family added a T after the war.

  3. Many immigrant families in the US anglicized their surnames for convenience. When someone with the family name, as in Hitler, makes it scandalous, it's sensible to change it.

More difficult is a birthdate. My nephew was born on 9/11, six years after the attacks. He says he's going to be a famous scientist, and that someday people will remember 9/11 because it's his birthday.

  4. The main highway into Ottawa passes a little sign for a campground named "Hither Hills", and I read it as "Hitler Hills" every damn time I drive by it.
