The top archbishops and bishops of the Church of England have issued an apology for a statement released last week which declared only married heterosexuals should have sex.
Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Archbishop of York John Sentamu said they took responsibility for the announcement.
"We as archbishops, alongside the bishops of the Church of England, apologise and take responsibility for releasing a statement last week which we acknowledge has jeopardised trust.
"We are very sorry and recognise the division and hurt this has caused."

That didn't take long. Awfully glad I didn't put any stock in the "offensive" statement.

ReplyDeleteWell, how to be an "official" Anglican, anyhow. Of which there are fewer and fewer. Some commenters think the statement was originally issued to try to persuade Kenyans to attend Lambeth -- Welby was there making nice with them. Having failed in that objective, they immediately walked it back. Hypocrisy is not one of the Lord's favored behaviors.

ReplyDeleteI did wonder about that cope, or whatever it it. Looks like it's cross-based although rather rainbow-ish. The design is so busy the cross gets lost, which is a metaphor for his whole approach to the faith.
