I don't know what State was doing in Egypt when I was there, but I remember reading online on the BBC about the wall between Gaza and Egypt being knocked down and Gazans pouring into Egypt at least a week before getting an email from State telling US citizens to avoid the area. So helpful.
The arrogance of career bureaucrats is being exposed, and it's not pretty.
Do remember, it's called Foggy Bottom for a reason.
Katherine, Your story reminds me of a comment a Facebook friend just said a day or so ago, regarding the news, "Americans should use the internet to get news from overseas. The Hindi News, The Pakistan Dawn, news sources from Israel, Germany, Brazil and Paris are accessible and in English." (as opposed to the MSM in the US.)
