Clearly this is an instance in which he knows he doesn't have the Orthodox Jewish vote anyway, so it makes for an easy target. And the liberal Jews won't care because they are Jewish the way most liberal Episcopalians and Catholics are Christian - leftism dressed with the occasional religious terminology as trim.
