STAGE 4 TDS
It's either that or Charming Billy has never seriously believed much of anything.

Sometimes I actually click on items about this creep or Brooks, just so I can enjoy the comments about them. Not nice, I know. But if ever the phrase *you bring it on yourself* applied...
I did click on it, Sybil, to look at comments. One diagnosed Kristol's problem as dementia. He's forgotten what norms and institutions he used to believe in.
A critic of Kristol's said, "I guess the checks from Pierre Omidyar are clearing". Aside from being too vain to reverse course, I suspect there's been a 10th planet influencing the behavior of these characters, but I haven't discerned what it might be. Neo-neocon, who is acquainted with Kristol personally, has pondered the matter but cannot come up with an explanation.
I've got a really long post in mind covering that very topic. Guys like Bill don't seriously believe much of anything but really hate to be contradicted by what they perceive as their intellectual inferiors (AKA the American electorate). Keep an eye out, Art. ;-)

Turncoat.

I think he may have nailed it.
That's a good analysis at Ace.
