NO MORE SUGARCOATING

Joe Biden voters set church on fire.

UPDATE:  I've got a couple of way better ideas, Erick.  Let local officials do their jobs.  And let jellyfish like you grow a freaking spine.  Good Lord, Erick.

UPDATE:  Mags?  Is there any conceivable chance you could make some kind of effort to understand how this country works?  I get that the Times doesn't expect a whole lot these days but, you know, at some point, dumbass bloggers are going to ask questions.

UPDATE: Here's another federalism lesson, Mags.

UPDATE: My late father fought in World War II.  China-Burma-India theater.  He flew the Hump meaning that he flew supplies into western China (you're welcome, Beijing, for my not having to render that in Japanese).  And if you seriously want to compare my father to a bunch of assholes who looted a Target because they can't find gainful employment, just know that my dad could have kicked all your asses and not even have been winded.

Pardon the language.  But this shit just got personal.

UH HUH

Recently, a black guy died at the hands of the Minneapolis police.  An investigation of the incident is ongoing, and there have been riots in response.  The thoroughly-Democratic mayor of thoroughly-Democratic Minneapolis , the most prominent city in the thoroughly-Democratic state of Minnesota, 'splains it all for you.

Of course you are.  Damn, Mayor.  If you'd worked in something about the Illuminati or come in with a straight-up Nazi blast or two, you'd have hit for the cycle.  Better luck next riot.

UPDATE:  Yeah, that's EXACTLY what's happening.

UPDATE: That's the prollum all right.  The Antichrist his own self.

UPDATE: No Jewish funerals so the Gauleiter's cool.

UPDATE: Sorry, wrong narrative.

UPDATE: Pete?  We know you're a Hillary fanboi so dial it down, kumquat.

Nobody with a brain is buying that shit.

UPDATE: If you're scoring at home, we're up to Russian white nationalist Hong Kong protestors or something like that.  I may be missing somebody.

UPDATE: EVERYTHING is Trump's fault, innit, Susie Q?

UPDATE: None of this is about you, Joke.

ANSWER: A GOOD START

Question: What do you call a country cutting ties and money to an international organization supposedly dedicated to "health" whose deliberate ass-kissing made a bad public health situation far worse than it needed to be?

Last month, President Trump halted US payments to the World Health Organization and accused the world body of botching the initial response to the outbreak of COVID-19. On Friday, he went further, announcing that the US was ending its relationship with the WHO altogether, reports CNN. Trump again accused the organization of being under the sway of Beijing, and he asserted that China pressured the organization to mislead the world about the outbreak when the virus first surfaced there, per the AP.

"We will be today terminating our relationship with the World Health Organization and directing those funds to worldwide and deserving urgent global public health needs,” Trump said in a statement from the Rose Garden, per Politico. He also noted that the US gives about $450 million to the WHO, compared to $40 million for China. The US is the biggest contributor to the world body, and the move could "significantly weaken" the organization, according to the AP.

Oh sweet mother of whatever deity it is that you Americans claim that you pray to, says Europe, please don't make us pay for it.

The European Union on Saturday urged President Trump to rethink his decision to cut American funding for the World Health Organization amid global criticism of the move, as spiking infection rates in India and elsewhere served as a reminder the global pandemic is far from contained. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Saturday urged Trump to reconsider, saying that "actions that weaken international results must be avoided" and that "now is the time for enhanced cooperation and common solutions." "The WHO needs to continue being able to lead the international response to pandemics, current and future," she said. "For this, the participation and support of all is required and very much needed." Trump on Friday charged that the WHO didn't respond adequately to the pandemic, accusing the UN agency of being under China's "total control," per the AP.

America to the EU: grow the damned hell up.

AND NOW...IDIOTS

Airhead haz reely stoopid thotz.

UPDATE: Faik Injun way zin.

WAIT...WHAT?

Here are some words that no Democrat EVER wants to hear passing between the lips of "a top economist in the Obama administration."

In early April, Jason Furman, a top economist in the Obama administration and now a professor at Harvard, was speaking via Zoom to a large bipartisan group of top officials from both parties. The economy had just been shut down, unemployment was spiking and some policymakers were predicting an era worse than the Great Depression. The economic carnage seemed likely to doom President Donald Trump’s chances at reelection.

Furman, tapped to give the opening presentation, looked into his screen of poorly lit boxes of frightened wonks and made a startling claim.

“We are about to see the best economic data we’ve seen in the history of this country,” he said.

“Everyone looked puzzled and thought I had misspoken,” Furman said in an interview. Instead of forecasting a prolonged Depression-level economic catastrophe, Furman laid out a detailed case for why the months preceding the November election could offer Trump the chance to brag — truthfully — about the most explosive monthly employment numbers and gross domestic product growth ever.

Furman’s counterintuitive pitch has caused some Democrats, especially Obama alumni, around Washington to panic. “This is my big worry,” said a former Obama White House official who is still close to the former president. Asked about the level of concern among top party officials, he said, “It’s high — high, high, high, high.”

Anything to this?  No idea.  Now and then, I find myself thinking that "sciences" like political analysis or economics aren't really sciences at all but modern, "respectable" versions of astrology.  In other words, a bunch of people with degrees sitting around guessing about stuff (I mean, if you can give a Nobel Prize to Paul Krugman, for God's sake...).

So I'll just say that considering Trump's run so far, it wouldn't surprise me.

Producing a successful movie where girls save the world is a three-step process.

(1) Write something original, a story people haven't seen before.  Iron Woman or Lady of the Rings is not originality.  Casablanca with Meryl Streep as Rick Blaine ain't happening.

(2) Don't take yourself too seriously.  It's a freakin' movie, for crying out loud, and it's like I always say.  Why should people pay good money to watch a leftist sermon when they can go to an Episcopal church any Sunday they care to and see one for free?

(3) Whatever you do, don't do this.

MORNING LINE

If you're thinking of putting your money on Whitless for veep, you might want to invest it in an entirely different direction.

Here's something that may be of interest to the Joe Biden vetting squad: News reports have Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's husband pulling the “don’t-you-know-who-I-am” card with a vacation boat dock worker in the middle of a pandemic that has killed thousands of people in his state.

“No longer visible to the public, Facebook posts from NorthShore Dock LLC and its owner, Tad Dowker, focused on what Dowker said was a request last week by Whitmer's husband, Marc Mallory. The posts have drawn the attention of Republican state lawmakers, who said the Democratic governor's family may not be following her guidance for the rest of the state.

“Whitmer's spokeswoman, Tiffany Brown, didn't confirm or deny Monday the assertions by the marina company or its owner. Brown said the administration wouldn't address ‘every rumor that is spread online.’ …

“‘This morning, I was out working when the office called me, there was a gentleman on hold who wanted his boat in the water before the weekend,’ Dowker posted. ‘Being Memorial weekend and the fact that we started working three weeks late means there is no chance this is going to happen.’ ‘Well our office personnel had explained this to the man and he replied, 'I am the husband to the governor, will this make a difference?'”

Dude! … Your wife is the governor of the state and is in the mix to be the vice president of the United States. And you’re trying to strongarm a boat dock operator in the middle of a deadly pandemic when your wife -- again, the governor! -- has been the face of stay-at-home-stay-safe talk?

Joe being Joe, I think he probably thinks (or whatever it is that his brain does at this point) that he can sell this.  And with an appropriately subservient "news media," he probably can.

And believe me, some of the most unpleasant people in the world are Missouri drunks.

Anyhoo, the Lake of the Ozarks was trending on Twitter for a while.  Turns out that this was going on and the usual suspects pretended to be horrified.

ATTENTION NON-CHRISTIANS

Since there are few better ways in the world to make yourself look like a complete jackass, PLEASE stop trying to explain to me what Christianity really means.  The following doesn't anger me.  I view this kind of thing either with amusement or with the sort of vicarious humiliation you feel while watching a friend who's drunk off his ass and doesn't realize it.

One-Hit Wonder?  Point One.  You do know that an actual Christian cannot write (and would have an extremely tough time even conceptualizing) something that mind-blowingly stupid, don't you?  Jesus came into the world to save the world from its sins by dying on the Cross, rose to life three days later, ascended into Heaven and will return to run everything so the question of whether or not Our LORD is a "Trump supporter" will never be a topic of conversation.

Ever.

Point Two.  This one's really going to throw you.  If you had taken your own advice and actually read a Bible, you'd realize that there is no difference between US presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Donald J. Trump because all three were/are exactly the same thing.

Sinners.  Like you, like me, like everybody who has ever lived.

Except for One.

Seriously O-H W.  Don't try this at home.

TOUGH DAY, RODGE?

or, Things I No Longer Care About.  While I'm not some reflexive, stupid, Democrat billionaire-basher, I confess to getting more than a chuckle out of stories like this.

A pandemic season played in empty stadiums would be problematic for the NFL. About $5.5 billion of stadium revenue would be out the window, Forbes reports. That includes money lost in tickets, concessions, sponsors and parking and at team stores. Some franchises would suffer more than others. The Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots would lose more than half their usual take, based on 2018 figures, while the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals would be down about a third. The players would take a hit, too: 47% of football-related income is slated to go to them in the 2020 season under the collective bargaining agreement.

Tends to happen when your home town's second NFL team in the modern era leaves and the Shield lies through its teeth to you about it.

WHOLLY-OWNED SUBSIDIARIES

It will be interesting to see whether Red China's "American news media" outlets end up being worth the money that Beijing shelled out (and continues to shell out) for them.

China is about to clamp down on Hong Kong with a controversial new law, a move expected to trigger more pro-democracy protests and possible retaliation from the US. Critics fear it could end or drastically curtail the unique political freedoms the city enjoys.

When China's parliament convenes Friday, it will pass a national security law to ban sedition, secession, and treason, reports the BBC. But the law is "tailor-made for Hong Kong," per the South China Morning Post. It would give authorities broad power to stop the type of anti-government protests that took place in Hong Kong last year.

Hong Kong.  The Chinese term for Sudetenland.

This could be "a turning point for (China's) freest and most international city, potentially triggering a revision of its special status in Washington and likely to spark more unrest," per Reuters. Beijing is essentially bypassing Hong Kong's own legislature on the issue.

Communist China bypassing somebody else's legislature?  Never saw that coming.  Maybe somebody should give Tibet a call.  Lhasa might have a thought or two.

Know what's sad, "American news media?"  Anyone with a functional conscience knows that there is a great gulf fixed between how you should cover this story and how you will cover it.

Or, for all practical purposes, won't cover it at all.

JOE, I'M BEGGIN' YA

PLEASE select Whitless as your vice-president.

There is perhaps nothing more confusing than Democrat governors’ orders during the Chinese WuFlu pandemic. Governor Gretchen Whitmer is by far the worst. That was made clear with the news that a gay swinger’s club with “glory holes” is being allowed to operate under her nose in Lansing while she aims her business-killing death ray on 77-year-old barber, Karl Manke, for giving haircuts.

But strangers giving each other fellatio through holes in a basement wall in the state capital is perfectly fine. I guess group sex is an “essential” activity in the Democrat-run state of Michigan.

LEBENSUNWERTES LEBEN

I guess if your political party has no qualms about strangling life in its crib, it won't be overly troubled about wasting folks at the end of their lives.

Gretchen Whitmer’s most devastating coronavirus mistake. “The purpose of the policy was to free up room in hospitals and prevent the healthcare system from being overwhelmed. But Whitmer’s order effectively turned the state’s nursing homes into breeding grounds, exposing hundreds of vulnerable residents to the virus. It’s no coincidence that 30% of Michigan’s COVID-19 deaths occurred in populous nursing homes.”

But if you absolutely must hit another synagogue or yeshiva, then you really need to fight the urge (with every fiber of your being) to brag about it on Twitter.  At the very least, that might keep people like me from working in my barely-disguised Nazi blasts.

People are noticing your...difficulties with Jews, Gauleiter.

COWARDICE

It does a body good.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office sergeant who was the first supervisor to respond to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and lost his job after it was found he hid behind his car as the first shots rang out, will be reinstated, awarded full back pay and get back his seniority, the BSO Deputies Association said Wednesday.

Sgt. Brian Miller was one of the four deputies who were terminated because of a “neglect of duty” in the Feb. 14, 2018, Parkland shooting, which killed 17 students and faculty members and injured another 17.

Miller, 57, was paid $138,410.25 in 2017, according to the Sun-Sentinel. The BSO veteran had challenged the decision with union backing. An arbitration ruling found “BSO violated Sgt. Brian Miller’s constitutional due process rights and improperly terminated him,” the union said.

BSO fired Miller in June 2019.

According to a report by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission, which investigated the shootings, Miller was the first supervisor to respond; he arrived as shots were being fired. He hid behind his police cruiser and did not radio in for 10 minutes.

SEPPUKU

Andrew Cuomo should probably forget all about any replace-Joe-Biden-and-become-president ideas he might still be entertaining.

In the chaotic days of late March, as it became clear that New York was facing a catastrophic outbreak of the coronavirus, aides to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo quietly inserted a provision on Page 347 of New York’s final, voluminous budget bill.

Many lawmakers were unaware of the language when they approved the budget a few days later. But it provided unusual legal protections for an influential industry that has been devastated by the crisis: nursing home operators.

The measure, lobbied for by industry representatives, shielded nursing homes from many lawsuits over their failure to protect residents from death or sickness caused by the coronavirus.

Now, weeks later, more than 5,300 residents of nursing homes in New York are believed to have died from the outbreak, and their relatives are finding that because of the provision, they may not be able to pursue legal action against the homes’ operators over allegations of neglect.

Mad props to The New York Times for covering this story.  But do me a big favor and spread this link or this story around as much and as far as you possibly can.  Considering it's subject, this will probably be the only time you ever hear about it.

If you'd really like to know why that is, ask yourself this question.  If Donald Trump had done something similar, how do you suppose the Democratic Party Steno Pool American "news media" would have covered it?  Because that right there is Why We Are Where We Are.

SCORCHED EARTH

If Tripping The Light Fat-tastic gets his way, there won't be much left when New Egypt enters the American Union or when Missouri annexes Illinois from roughly Vandalia south to Cairo.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker defended Sunday his cautious economic reopening plan, which leaves schools and many businesses shuttered until the novel coronavirus is all but defeated, saying the state will be unable to return to normal “until we’re able to eradicate it.”

Rockford will be stripped for parts.

“The truth is coronavirus is still out there. It hasn’t gone anywhere,” Mr. Pritzker said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “So we all are going to have to change the way we do things until we’re able to eradicate it.”

What's this "we" stuff, Lard Have Mercy?  Illinois to Big Fat Democrat: if "we all are going to have to change the way we do things," that means that you don't get to waddle off to Florida whenever the mood strikes you.  And flying in an airplane in the middle of a pandemic?  Are you out of your cholesterol-drenched mind?

Who do you think you are?  Chris Cuomo?  Oh that's right, you have a new "plan."

The Democratic governor unveiled Wednesday his “Restore Illinois” five-phase reopening plan, prompting allegations that he had moved the goal from “bending the curve” to eliminating COVID-19 altogether by requiring a cure or vaccine before allowing the return of schools and non-essential businesses.

Not sure why anyone should pay attention to this plan since dude's last plan somehow found itself...contraindicated.  But Pritzker hasn't "moved the goalposts," as the Chicago Tribune believesMike Madigan's Morbidly Obese Sock Puppet has changed the entire game.

In a staff editorial, the Chicago Tribune called his plan “cautious in the extreme,” noting that it bans reopening schools, barbershops, salons, gyms, bars and restaurants—and then with capacity restrictions — only after the advent of a vaccine, herd immunity, or an “effectively and widely available treatment.”

“Actually, he’s being more than just cautious. He has moved the goal posts,” said the editorial. “Pritzker’s latest plan extends the benchmarks for victory from bending the infection curve to defeating the virus altogether.”

I have not, retorted the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Governor, essentially admitting that he had done exactly what the Trib said he did.

Mr. Pritzker swung back by arguing, “If the Chicago Tribune thinks we can go back to completely normal without us having a very effective treatment or vaccine, they’re just dead wrong.”

Here's how this is going to go down, Your Corpulence.  The longer you keep kicking this can down the road (and right now, best case scenario for the Land of Lincoln is a couple of years.  And you don't have a couple of years), the more Illinois jobs are going to die and the more Illinois businesses are going to close their doors forever.  What idiot would be stupid enough to start or locate a business in Illinois right now?

Taxes?  Nice knowing you.  State revenue?  Buh-bye.  And don't get me started on Illinois state pensions.  What with all the people who will be drawing unemployment, and Lord knows how Springfield's going to afford to pay for all of those, the pension situation, which is untenable right now, will become unsolvable, absent a gigantic infusion of federal jack.

Which ain't happening.  Not if any American politician wants to win reelection anyway.

And this is where the civil war starts?  No, this is where the civil indifference starts.

I can see some Illinois guy whose job is gone, whose bank account is emptying fast or whose business has just gone belly-up while he waited for some Springfield douche to decide that Everything Is All-Right.  Our guy's got nothing else on his plate at the moment so what are a few days in an Illinois slammer to him but some meals he doesn't have to pay for?

Of course, somebody's got to arrest him which means somebody can be there to film it which means material for freelance anti-Democratic Party campaign commercials from one end of this country to the other this fall, not just in Illinois.  Of course, the identities of the Illstapo supporters who arrest our guy and others like him as well as try their cases will be widely known.

If that happens often enough, if folks who live there begin to feel that living in Illinois is no longer a benefit, they will no longer vote to increase their state taxes, oppose any representative who votes for tax increases and sharply reduce any financial obligations to Springfield they have left.  Want to start the State of New Egypt and reduce "Illinois" to Chicago and its suburbs?  That'll be something historic, something that we can tell the grandkids about.

Want to be annexed by Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana or all four?  Might as well; their money is still good and Springfield's dead in the water.  That's why any talk of a "civil war" any time soon in this situation would be silly.  Americans know that to have a top-shelf civil war, you have to give a damn.  And it's hard to fight a shooting war over a place no one cares about any longer.

UPDATE: Seemed appropriate.  The BBC breaks ranks.

UPDATE: Down in the comments, Frank postulates an interesting theory.

Theory time: On the assumption (quite possibly wrong) that Fatboy cannot really be this stupid, this whole exercise is actually an attempt to make the situation in Illinois so bad that even Trump and McConnell would have to endorse that massive Fed bailout. The real enchilada is, as you noted, the wildly over-promised and under-funded state, Cook County and Chicago pension systems, which were already beyond absurd before the CCP Flu showed up to make life fun again for lefty politicians. In other words, it’s all a show for DC.

That's not a crazy idea at all and no way would I put this kind of brinkmanship past Illinois Democrats.  After all, they've got a once-in-a-lifetime "crisis" so why not make good use of it?  Who knows when the next potentially-deadly pandemic will come around so why not get the Republicans to kill a whole lot of Democratic birds with one stone while we have the chance?

Here's one reason.  The idea of the Congress allocating billions and billions of taxpayer dollars to alleviate the effects of Democratic avarice and thievery in one state, a state they don't even live in, is probably not going to sit at all well with people who have lost jobs, businesses and/or their savings to the Chinese Flu.  And that's putting it mildly.

The ONLY way the Congress ought to even agree to debate this idea, never mind actually pass it, should contain a condition that Illinois federal and state Democrats would never accept.  Namely that if any funds are voted, federal and state Illinois elected officials are to have absolutely no say in how those moneys are spent or what they're spent on.

Or how any other federal moneys are spent or what those moneys are spent on.

For all practical purposes, Illinois is to resume territorial status, de facto and de jure.

If no federal funds are voted, the status quo is resumed.  If money is spent, Illinois must then reapply for statehood.  Maybe they're allowed back in, maybe a new state (or two) is carved out, maybe the place is shared out among Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and/or Indiana or maybe the whole place is turned into an overflow parking lot for the Green Bay Packers.

CALSTAPO

Cali?  This is not sustainable and you know it.

So Cali basically met its goal only to have state "leadership" invent new goals that, best case scenario, might be a year away?  Good luck selling that TBD crap, what with all those Californians having bills to pay, food and fuel to buy or businesses that they've put a lot of work into and really would like keep running, assuming those businesses even still exist.

And here's the kicker, Sacramento.  Those jobs and businesses that are gone are probably not coming back.  With those Sac Town morons fighting you every step of the way, who'd be stupid enough to locate a business in California?  Unless you're an economic illiterate or something.

UPDATE: Might be starting already, Cali.  And this one is pretty good.

ILLSTAPO

Illinois Governor Goering gets his totalitarian freak on.

Like I said about Gauleiter de Blasio. Do a mosque and see what happens.  Or be prepared for a whole lot of people coming to the conclusion that sending Illinois cops into a church to arrest some poor Illinois sap caught standing 5.998567 feet away from some other poor Illinois sap is about a lot of things but the public health most certainly isn't one of them.

Plus, the electoral optics couldn't possibly be worse.

We're talking about people's livelihoods here, lard-ass.  Assuming, if you ever do open the state up again, that they'll even have jobs to go back to.  As somebody who's had more than his share of experience with it, prolonged unemployment is the easiest thing in the world to expect somebody else to go through.  I wouldn't begin to understand what it must be like to have to impotently watch the business you spent your life building shatter into a million pieces for reasons that you no longer understand, never mind agree with.

And don't even get me started on telling people when, where and under what conditions they can worship their God.

Glenn Reynolds puts it like this.

The shutdowns were sold as “two weeks to slow the spread,” and “flattening the curve,” and so on, and lots of people thought that was sensible, and it was. A two-month (or longer) shutdown is a different animal, and nobody consented to that. So now people are, mostly silently, withdrawing their consent from the state.

Explain things to people.  Explain in great detail why folks really need to take a couple of weeks or even a month off and they'll happily do it as long as they fully understand why.  But if that period just keeps getting longer and longer for vaguer and vaguer "reasons" or if people are told not to ask questions, that the government knows what's best, expect more than a little pushback.

Fact is, there are probably nowhere near enough jails in the state, fat boy.  Not to mention how many times we'll all get to relive all those moments during the campaign commercials.

GOING YARD

Gauleiter de Blasio's done a bang-up job with the Chinese Flu.

QUICK REMINDER, BEN

To me, the only thing this "says about America" is that your party got so mind-bendingly far away from America (remember "deplorables," Ben?  Political gaffes cannot get any more stupid than that) during the eight years of Barry's Personal Rule, you STILL don't know why HILLARY CLINTON LOST THE PRESIDENCY TO DONALD J. TRUMP.

And if Trump is "profoundly unfit...for the job," what on Earth to you do with the fact that HILLARY CLINTON LOST THE PRESIDENCY TO DONALD J. TRUMP?

If I were you, I'd go kiss some Iranian ass or something.  That always makes you feel good.

LOCKING THE BARN DOOR

A Democratic Party Steno Pool opinion writer is Gravely Concerned.TM

I first saw it on Twitter. “Someone poke holes in this scenario,” a tweet from Eric Nelson, the editorial director of Broadside Books, read. “We keep losing 1,000 to 2,000 a day to coronavirus. People get used to it. We get less vigilant as it very slowly spreads. By December we’re close to normal, but still losing 1,500 a day, and as we tick past 300,000 dead, most people aren’t concerned.”

This hit me like a ton of bricks because of just how plausible it seemed. The day I read Mr. Nelson’s tweet, 1,723 Americans were reported to have died from the virus. And yet their collective passing was hardly mourned. After all, how to distinguish those souls from the 2,097 who perished the day before or the 1,558 who died the day after?

Or the people who have died of every sort of imaginable cause every single day in the history of this planet since man first became aware of his surroundings and started pondering Big Questions.TM  Or the TENS OF MILLIONS of babies who have been aborted since the American "right" to that murderous abomination was invented in 1973.  Or "people" like Virginia Governor Klansie McBlackface who's perfectly okay with killing kids before birth and after it.  Or the thousands of elderly New Yorkers that Andrew Cuomo recently had killed.

Etc.

I've got news for you.  People die every single day in this country for all kinds of reasons.  And if the Chinese Flu disappeared tomorrow, people would still die every single day in this country for all kinds of reasons.  So if you think that it's acceptable to pick and choose what deaths are crimes that you intend to be Gravely ConcernedTM about, your opinion is stupid and hypocritical, it doesn't interest me and it never will so keep it to yourself.

Because death really doesn't bother you at all.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

Politico joins the Beijing Stenographers Guild news service.

As coronavirus has spread outward from its Wuhan origins, the Chinese government has worked hard to spin an initial embarrassment into a win for its international image, with mixed success. But to Chinese authorities, the audience at home is the one that really matters, and among that vast cohort, the verdict is unsparing: China has outperformed, while America has disastrously faltered. It’s a sentiment shared by even educated, internationalized Chinese observers — the very group once inclined to look to America as an exemplar.

It's really sad that Politico is stupid enough to think that "Chinese opinion" is newsworthy in any respect whatsoever since everybody with a functioning brain already knows exactly what it's going to be in every situation; I mean, Politico does know how dissidents from the official Chinese line are regularly treated, doesn't it?  Disappearances?  Concentration camps?

Death?

JOURNALISMING

Lord knows, we're not going to waste our valuable time trying to find out the truth of all this since that would require actual work on our parts.  And since Beijing writes all our crap these days, what's the point of that?  This...is China's Nattering Nitwits CNN.

KIRSTEN?

Take the L, sweetheart.  Just take the L and move on.  Only thing you can do.  Because when you get caught lying through your teeth as blatantly as you did here, when everybody's dunking on you, lamely attempting to cover your tracks by pulling your tweets is pretty much the worst conceivable move you can possibly make.

As things stand now, nobody's ever going to listen to you again.
