YOU WILL BE FORCED TO BE SORRY

This might be the single most painful thing I've ever read.

Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey apologized Sunday for a now-deleted tweet in support of pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong, and NBA officials, American lawmakers and the Chinese government had plenty to say about it.

Morey said he did not mean to offend the team’s “significant support” among Chinese fans and sponsors when he posted an image that read: "Fight For Freedom. Stand With Hong Kong."

“I was merely voicing one thought, based on one interpretation, of one complicated event,” Morey said. “I have had a lot of opportunity since that tweet to hear and consider other perspectives.”

I've heard that the Rockets are considering firing Morey so the only "other perspective" that interests me right about now is what Morey was knocking back one shot after another after he signed his name to that...thing.

Beam?  Evan Williams?  Early Times?  Still, whenever you get Eric Swalwell

Listen....some things are more important than money. Like doing the right thing. @dmorey tweeted about human rights and supporting #HongKongProtests. How ironic that you’re siding with communism to advance your greed.

And Josh Hawley

So let me get this straight. @HoustonRockets GM Daryl Morey expresses support for Hong Kong democracy movement & Chinese government pressures NBA to fire him? Moment of truth for NBA. Will they bow to pressure from repressive, authoritarian govt?

On the same team, you've accomplished quite a bit.

UPDATE: Golden State Warriors coach and big-league SJW Steve Kerr weighs in on the NBA's China controversy.  And if you'd really rather not click over there, which I totally get since what you'd read is obvious, the gutless son of a bitch says absolutely nothing. #TheNBASucks

The NBA has a HUGE contract to broadcast NBA games in China. They chose money over freedom.

(However, it might be wise for sports owners and team managers to refrain from political comments on Twitter or anywhere else. Just think how much better the NFL's condition would be if it had observed this rule.)
