Bette started by singing in "lounges" if you want to call it that. My husband caught her act back in the early 70's at a dive bar up in Danvers, MA. She kept making fun of the name Danvers, which wasn't endearing.
Katherine, The first time I saw it, I thought it was the stupidest commercial Id EVAH seen, especially since I knew Rachel Dratch is from Lexington. Then I read a few commentaries on how it was "supposed" to be over the top. Then it made a little more sense and seemed a little funnier.
In case you didn't know, here's the cast and the "Easter Eggs." Chris Evans - Sudbury John Krasinski - Newton Rachel Dratch - Lexington David “Big Papi” Ortiz - Boston Red Sox Bob Wahlberg - Dorchester Arthur Walhberg - Worcester The Delivery Man - Tony Viveiros, a Massachusetts native and Charlestown comedian The first car has an “I Love Dorchester” bumper sticker Calling the remote a "clickuh" - very Bostonian!! Theme music at the end of the ad - “Dirty Water” by The Standells
Ah, so people from the area weren't as happy with it. I thought it was good clean fun, and that maybe we'd reached the point where a little laughing at our regional variations and quirks could be done again. I didn't know one actor from another, or their backgrounds.
One of my daughters, here in central NC, had a middle school teacher who was big on environmentalism and took the kids on a "Mahtch for the Pahk." Kids thought it was just as funny as someone with a thick Southern drawl would be, no doubt, in Boston.

I think she's trying to get that gig pole dancing for the Super Bowl next year.
Is she a lounge singer? When you say 'lounge', I think Eydie Gorme or Rosemary Clooney, not her.
Here's Eydie showin' you how it's done:

Oh, TLM, I have wanted to hear what you thought of the "Smaht Pahk" ad on Sunday. I thought it was cute and really funny.
