What's interesting about Trump is how he's unmasked people. A mess of people have been exposed as vain fools. A few others have been exposed as incorrigibly twee. (David French is a hybrid of the two types). I'd never have guessed this about most of them five years ago. (Exceptions: Patrick Frey aka 'Patterico' had fairly blatant character and personality defects and Ross Douthat's shortcomings were observable as well).
I watched a good bit of that White House gathering. Trump was funny, and spent time identifying and thanking, one by one, the people who helped fend off these unjustifiable political attacks. Nothing wrong with it.
